Information about Snow Gear!

Dear Families,

This post is important for preparing for winter weather. Children will go outside for recess throughout the winter months. They must have all appropriate snow gear (coats, snow pants, hat, mittens/gloves) to play on the playground during recess when there is snow on the ground. If they do not have ALL of the above listed items they will be allowed on the blacktop only.

Please do lots of practice taking on and off winter clothing independently. In school our goal is for the children to be able to get in and out of their gear on their own (zipping and unzipping coats and snow pants, putting boots on correct feet, dressing in order, etc.)

If your child wears his/her boots to school please be sure they have another pair of sneakers/shoes to change in to. This will help keep our classroom dry and safe. An extra pair of socks is always a good idea too!
Important...tie boots and sneakers should only be worn to school if your child is working on learning to tie. If your child does not know how to independently tie their shoes please consider velcro or slip on shoes for the winter. In kindergarten, we change our shoes as many as 4 times a day and that adds up to a lot of shoe tying for the teacher.

To carry winter gear to and from school, a reusable tote works best. It's big enough for the children to independently pack wet clothes to be taken home each day.

We are going to have lots of fun this season! Thanks for your help!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Friends,

We have been learning so much about the Pilgrims, Native Americans, and the First Thanksgiving. Today was our Thanksgiving Feast with our kindergarten friends. We recited our poems, sang our songs, and then had our snacks together.
I am grateful for each one of you and am so thankful that we get to spend each day together.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

November Happenings

Dear Friends,

November has been a busy month so far. We are learning all about tree parts and their life cycle. The early winter weather and snow fall provided interesting data for our temperature and weather graph for the month. Hopefully we'll get back to some fall weather next week.
Today we began learning about how Native Americans lived long ago. Our Native American Village is up and running in our dramatic play area and we are expanding that learning through play.

Don't forget that Monday is our last half-day for parent teacher conferences, but more importantly, it's Pajama Day!!!

 Have a great weekend!

Fire Safety

Dear Friends,

Yesterday we had our first assembly! It was all about fire prevention. Do you remember the theme this year? That's right - Not every hero wears a cape: Plan and Practice Your Escape! We learned all about planning for an emergency and ways to prevent fires. A big thank you to our Niskayuna Fire Fighters for an awesome assembly. Our kindergarten fire station is now open. We're busy practicing everything we've learned!

Have a great day!

Apples, Apples, Everywhere!!

Dear Friends,

We have learned so much about apples this week and now we are all experts!! Today we went to Mrs. Roe's room and tasted 3 different kinds and colors of apples. Then we made a book about which ones we liked best. I thought they were ALL delicious. Did you?

Today was also Hat Day. Here we are - full of School Spirit!

We've been exploring so many ways to use materials and tools in our classroom to learn new things. Yesterday, friends wanted to see if they could make a road of Brain Flakes that stretched from one side of the room to another. Guess what? They did it!! Today they worked to see how big of a loop they could make. So much fun!!

We've also been learning how to play Quidditch in P.E. while we're getting ready for Hogwart's NIght. If you don't remember what team you are on, have your family look on the sidebar of the blog for the link.

Enjoy the fall weather!

A BIG "Thank You" to Our PTO

Dear Boys and Girls,

We had another great week in kindergarten learning about each other. Next week we will talk all about being a great friend. We're going to read some great books and also share about what makes our name special. My father gave me my name. How did you get yours?
We were able to celebrate some of the amazing weather we had at the end of the week by getting outside with our kindergarten friends and using some of the awesome equipment we received from the PTO. A big "THANK YOU" to our very generous Rosendale PTO for helping us have so much fun!!

I hope you're enjoying the beautiful weekend!
